Description
These festive Firecracker Hot Dogs are a fun and easy sheet pan dinner perfect for beginner cooks, ideal for 4th of July parties or kid-friendly meals.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 can refrigerated breadstick dough
- 16 hot dogs
- 16 thick slices Colby cheese
- 16 wooden skewers
Instructions
- Insert a wooden skewer into each hot dog, leaving about 1.5 inches exposed at the top.
- Wrap each hot dog with a strip of breadstick dough, spiraling from bottom to top without covering the skewer tip.
- Place wrapped hot dogs on a baking sheet lined with parchment or a silicone liner.
- Bake in a preheated 350°F (175°C) oven for about 20 minutes or until the dough is golden brown.
- While baking, cut Colby cheese into star shapes using a small star-shaped cookie cutter.
- Let baked hot dogs cool for 2–3 minutes, then gently press a cheese star onto the exposed skewer tip.
- Serve upright in a decorative container or lay flat on a tray for easy serving.
Notes
- If the dough begins to brown too quickly, tent with foil to prevent burning.
- For firmer cheese stars, freeze cheese slices for 10 minutes before cutting.
- Crescent roll dough or puff pastry can be substituted for breadstick dough.
- Use thick-sliced cheese (1/4 to 3/8 inch) to ensure star shapes hold up well.
