Description

This Black Forest Trifle for Christmas combines the rich flavors of chocolate cake, sweet cherry filling, and creamy whipped cream. It’s an easy-to-make, no-bake dessert that’s perfect for the holiday season. Whether you’re entertaining guests or enjoying a quiet moment with family, this trifle is sure to be a festive crowd-pleaser.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (9×13″) pan of store-bought chocolate cake (or homemade, cooled and cubed)
  • 2 cups cherry pie filling (canned or homemade)
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • ¼ cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ cup chocolate shavings (or mini chocolate chips)
  • Optional: 2 Tbsp cherry liqueur (like kirsch) or cherry juice

Instructions

  1. Cube or crumble your chocolate cake into bite-sized pieces. If using cherry liqueur, lightly drizzle it over the cake cubes.
  2. In a chilled bowl, whisk together the heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until soft peaks form.
  3. Layer your trifle in a glass dish starting with the cake cubes, followed by a generous layer of cherry pie filling.
  4. Add a thick layer of whipped cream on top of the cherries, then sprinkle chocolate shavings over it.
  5. Repeat the layering process, finishing with whipped cream and chocolate shavings on top.
  6. Cover and refrigerate the trifle for at least 2 hours, or overnight for deeper flavor.
  7. Serve chilled and enjoy the festive treat!

Notes

  • This trifle can be made up to 24 hours in advance for best flavor.
  • If you prefer firmer whipped cream, you can add a teaspoon of instant pudding mix or softened cream cheese.
  • Feel free to use fresh or frozen cherries instead of pie filling if desired, but be sure to sweeten them.
  • If you don’t want to use alcohol, cherry juice is a great alternative to cherry liqueur.
