Description

This Carrabba’s Olive Oil Bread Dip is a restaurant-style appetizer made with extra virgin olive oil, garlic, and herbs. Perfect for entertaining or a quick gourmet snack, it pairs beautifully with crusty bread and can also be used as a salad dressing, marinade, or pasta seasoning.

Ingredients

Scale
  • ¼ cup extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon crushed red pepper flakes
  • 1 tablespoon freshly cracked black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon dried oregano
  • 1 tablespoon dried basil
  • 1 tablespoon dried parsley
  • 1½ teaspoons garlic powder
  • 1½ teaspoons onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon dried rosemary
  • 1½ teaspoons coarse sea salt
  • 3 cloves fresh garlic, minced or crushed

Instructions

  1. Combine the dry ingredients: In a small bowl, mix the crushed red pepper, black pepper, oregano, basil, parsley, garlic powder, onion powder, dried rosemary, and sea salt. Stir well to evenly distribute the seasonings.
  2. Prepare the garlic: Mince or crush the fresh garlic, adjusting the amount based on your preference for intensity. For a milder flavor, roast the garlic beforehand or slice it instead of mincing.
  3. Assemble the dip: Just before serving, spread the spice mixture onto a shallow dish. Drizzle the extra virgin olive oil over the top and lightly stir to combine, ensuring the flavors are well blended.
  4. Enhance with optional ingredients: For added depth, mix in a splash of balsamic vinegar, a sprinkle of grated parmesan cheese, or a squeeze of fresh lemon juice.
  5. Serve immediately: Pair with warm, crusty bread or an assortment of sliced vegetables. For the best flavor, let the mixture sit for a few minutes before dipping to allow the herbs to infuse into the oil.

Notes

  • If using fresh herbs, replace each teaspoon of dried herbs with one tablespoon of finely chopped fresh herbs.
  • Store the dry spice blend in an airtight container for up to a month. If mixed with oil, consume within 2-3 days.
  • Adjust the spice level by increasing or reducing the red pepper flakes to taste.
  • Use this oil as a salad dressing, marinade for meats, or seasoning for roasted vegetables.
