Description
Garlic Shrimp Gratin is a creamy, cheesy baked seafood dish that combines juicy shrimp, fresh garlic, and a crispy panko topping. It’s the perfect comfort food for beginner cooks looking for an easy and flavorful meal that feels special but comes together with minimal effort.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb medium shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
- ½ cup panko breadcrumbs
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 375°F (190°C) and let it heat while you prepare the rest of the dish so it’s ready to bake once assembled.
- Sauté the garlic: In a medium skillet over medium heat, melt the butter and add the minced garlic. Stir constantly for about a minute until the garlic becomes fragrant but not browned, which helps keep the flavor sweet rather than bitter.
- Cook the shrimp: Add the shrimp to the garlic butter mixture and season with salt and pepper. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the shrimp turn pink and opaque—about 3 to 4 minutes. Remove from the heat once done.
- Combine ingredients: In a large bowl, stir together the heavy cream, mozzarella, half of the Parmesan, and the cooked shrimp mixture until everything is well-coated and evenly distributed.
- Prepare the baking dish: Lightly grease a 9×9-inch baking dish with butter or cooking spray. Spoon the shrimp and cream mixture into the dish and spread it out evenly.
- Top with breadcrumbs: In a small bowl, mix the panko breadcrumbs with the remaining Parmesan cheese. Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the top of the shrimp mixture to create a crispy crust.
- Bake until golden: Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 20 to 25 minutes, until the top is golden brown and bubbly. If the topping needs extra crisping, broil for an additional 1–2 minutes, watching closely to avoid burning.
- Finish and garnish: Let the gratin sit for a few minutes before serving. Garnish with freshly chopped parsley for color and a touch of freshness.
Notes
- Add a pinch of red pepper flakes or paprika if you enjoy a little heat.
- For extra flavor, you can mix in sautéed spinach or roasted red peppers.
- This dish also works great with scallops or firm white fish in place of shrimp.
- Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days.
- Reheat in the oven to maintain the crispy topping.
