Description

These beginner-friendly French Silk Brownies feature a rich, fudgy brownie base topped with a silky, chocolate mousse layer and whipped topping for an indulgent yet simple dessert.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 box brownie mix (not prepared)
  • 1 egg
  • 5 1/2 tablespoons unsalted butter (melted)
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 8 ounces cream cheese (at room temperature)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 4 ounces semi-sweet chocolate
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter (cubed)
  • 8 ounce Cool Whip (for French silk layer)
  • 8 ounce Cool Whip (for topping)
  • Chocolate shavings or mini chocolate chips (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F and grease an 11×7-inch glass baking dish with non-stick cooking spray.
  2. In a medium mixing bowl, combine brownie mix, egg, melted butter, and milk. Stir until smooth and spread evenly in the prepared dish.
  3. Bake for 25–28 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out mostly clean. Let the brownies cool completely.
  4. In a large mixing bowl, beat cream cheese and vanilla extract until smooth. Add powdered sugar and mix until fully combined.
  5. In a microwave-safe bowl, melt semi-sweet chocolate and cubed butter in 30-second intervals, stirring until smooth. Let it cool slightly.
  6. Add the melted chocolate mixture to the cream cheese mixture and stir until well blended. Gently fold in the 8 ounces of Cool Whip until fully combined.
  7. Spread the French silk layer evenly over the cooled brownies.
  8. Top with the remaining 8-ounce tub of Cool Whip and garnish with chocolate shavings or mini chips if desired.
  9. Chill for at least 2 hours before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • You can use homemade brownies instead of a boxed mix.
  • Homemade whipped cream can replace Cool Whip, but stabilize it with powdered sugar.
  • Let brownies cool completely before adding the French silk layer to avoid melting.
  • Use dark or milk chocolate based on your sweetness preference.
