Ingredients
Scale
- 5-pound Standing Rib Roast / Prime Rib
- 1 stick (8 tablespoons) butter, very soft
- 2 tablespoons fresh rosemary, chopped
- 2 tablespoons fresh thyme, chopped
- 2 tablespoons chopped garlic
- 2 tablespoons salt
- 1/2 teaspoon pepper
Instructions
- Allow the prime rib roast to come to room temperature for about 1 to 2 hours.
- Preheat your oven to 500°F (260°C).
- Pat the roast dry with paper towels. Season generously with salt and pepper.
- In a small bowl, combine softened butter, rosemary, thyme, and garlic to create the garlic herb butter.
- Spread the garlic herb butter evenly over the top of the roast, letting any excess drip down the sides.
- Place the roast on a wire rack in a roasting pan. Insert it into the oven and roast for 15 minutes at 500°F.
- Reduce the oven temperature to 325°F (165°C) and continue roasting for about 2 hours or until the internal temperature reaches 125°F (51°C) for medium-rare.
- Check the roast’s internal temperature every 30 minutes to ensure even cooking.
- Once done, remove the roast from the oven and let it rest for 10-15 minutes.
- Slice the roast into 1/4-inch slices using a sharp knife and serve immediately.
Notes
- For boneless prime rib, adjust cooking time as it will cook faster.
- Use a meat thermometer to check doneness accurately.
- Let the roast rest to allow juices to redistribute before slicing.
