Description

Garlic Herb Prime Rib is a succulent and flavorful roast, perfect for any special occasion or holiday meal. This recipe features a tender standing rib roast coated in a rich garlic herb butter that caramelizes into a delicious crust as it cooks, making each bite juicy and full of savory flavor.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 5-pound Standing Rib Roast / Prime Rib
  • 1 stick (8 tablespoons) butter, very soft
  • 2 tablespoons fresh rosemary, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons fresh thyme, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons chopped garlic
  • 2 tablespoons salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper

Instructions

  1. Allow the prime rib roast to come to room temperature for about 1 to 2 hours.
  2. Preheat your oven to 500°F (260°C).
  3. Pat the roast dry with paper towels. Season generously with salt and pepper.
  4. In a small bowl, combine softened butter, rosemary, thyme, and garlic to create the garlic herb butter.
  5. Spread the garlic herb butter evenly over the top of the roast, letting any excess drip down the sides.
  6. Place the roast on a wire rack in a roasting pan. Insert it into the oven and roast for 15 minutes at 500°F.
  7. Reduce the oven temperature to 325°F (165°C) and continue roasting for about 2 hours or until the internal temperature reaches 125°F (51°C) for medium-rare.
  8. Check the roast’s internal temperature every 30 minutes to ensure even cooking.
  9. Once done, remove the roast from the oven and let it rest for 10-15 minutes.
  10. Slice the roast into 1/4-inch slices using a sharp knife and serve immediately.

Notes

  • For boneless prime rib, adjust cooking time as it will cook faster.
  • Use a meat thermometer to check doneness accurately.
  • Let the roast rest to allow juices to redistribute before slicing.
