Description

These Red Velvet Cinnamon Rolls with Cream Cheese Frosting are the perfect blend of sweet, tangy, and comforting flavors. Soft, pillowy rolls are swirled with cinnamon and coated in a rich cream cheese frosting, creating a decadent treat for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 packet active dry yeast (2 1/4 tsp)
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 2 tbsp red food coloring
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened (for filling)
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Add melted butter, eggs, cocoa powder, food coloring, and flour. Mix until dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place dough in a greased bowl and cover with a towel. Let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  5. In a small bowl, mix cinnamon, brown sugar, and softened butter for the filling.
  6. Roll dough into a large rectangle and spread the cinnamon filling evenly on top. Roll tightly into a log.
  7. Slice the dough into 12 even pieces. Place them in a greased baking pan and cover. Let rise for another 30 minutes.
  8. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake rolls for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
  9. While baking, beat together cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla for the frosting.
  10. Once rolls are baked, spread the cream cheese frosting on top and serve warm.

Notes

  • Ensure dough doesn’t overproof during rises for optimal texture.
  • Use dental floss or a serrated knife to cut even slices of dough.
  • For a less sweet frosting, reduce powdered sugar or use Greek yogurt.
  • If making ahead, refrigerate the rolls after the second rise and bake them in the morning.
