Description

This easy smothered pork chops recipe features tender bone-in pork chops simmered in a creamy mushroom sauce—perfect for beginner cooks seeking comfort food.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 bone-in pork chops
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup sliced mushrooms
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Season pork chops generously with salt and pepper on both sides.
  2. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat and sear pork chops for 4-5 minutes on each side until browned. Remove and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, add mushrooms and diced onion. Sauté for about 5 minutes until mushrooms are golden and onions are translucent.
  4. Add minced garlic and cook for about 1 minute until fragrant.
  5. Pour in chicken broth, scraping up browned bits from the pan. Bring to a simmer.
  6. Reduce heat and stir in heavy cream, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix until combined.
  7. Return pork chops to the skillet, cover, and simmer for 15-20 minutes until pork is cooked through and tender.
  8. Taste and adjust seasoning as needed. Garnish with fresh parsley before serving.

Notes

  • Boneless pork chops can be used but may cook faster.
  • To lighten the dish, substitute heavy cream with half-and-half or coconut cream.
  • If the sauce thickens too much, add a splash of broth or water.
  • Refrigerate leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
