Description
This easy smothered pork chops recipe features tender bone-in pork chops simmered in a creamy mushroom sauce—perfect for beginner cooks seeking comfort food.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 bone-in pork chops
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 cup sliced mushrooms
- 1 small onion, diced
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup chicken broth
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- Season pork chops generously with salt and pepper on both sides.
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat and sear pork chops for 4-5 minutes on each side until browned. Remove and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add mushrooms and diced onion. Sauté for about 5 minutes until mushrooms are golden and onions are translucent.
- Add minced garlic and cook for about 1 minute until fragrant.
- Pour in chicken broth, scraping up browned bits from the pan. Bring to a simmer.
- Reduce heat and stir in heavy cream, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix until combined.
- Return pork chops to the skillet, cover, and simmer for 15-20 minutes until pork is cooked through and tender.
- Taste and adjust seasoning as needed. Garnish with fresh parsley before serving.
Notes
- Boneless pork chops can be used but may cook faster.
- To lighten the dish, substitute heavy cream with half-and-half or coconut cream.
- If the sauce thickens too much, add a splash of broth or water.
- Refrigerate leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
