Description

Texas Sheet Cake is a rich and moist dessert that’s perfect for any occasion. Known for its simple ingredients and decadent chocolate flavor, it’s a crowd-pleasing treat that is easy to make and guaranteed to satisfy everyone’s sweet tooth.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a large sheet pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the buttermilk and boiling water. Stir to combine.
  4. Beat the eggs and vanilla extract into the butter mixture, then pour it into the dry ingredients. Stir until combined.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread it evenly.
  6. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean when inserted into the center of the cake.
  7. While the cake is baking, prepare the frosting. In a saucepan, melt butter and cocoa powder together, then stir in powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk. Whisk until smooth.
  8. Once the cake has cooled for 10-15 minutes, pour the frosting over it. Spread evenly with a spatula.
  9. Let the frosting set before serving.

Notes

  • Make sure the eggs and butter are at room temperature for better consistency in the batter.
  • For a gluten-free version, use a gluten-free flour blend.
  • Store leftover cake in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days, or refrigerate for up to 5 days.
  • For a dairy-free version, substitute buttermilk with almond milk and use coconut oil instead of butter.
