Description

Cheesy potatoes with smoked sausage is a comforting and satisfying dish that combines tender potatoes, smoky sausage, and creamy cheese. It’s easy to prepare and perfect for any meal, whether as a main dish or side. Ideal for busy nights or family gatherings, this recipe will quickly become a favorite.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 large Potatoes: Provides a hearty base with a soft texture
  • 14 oz Smoked Sausage: Adds smoky, savory flavor
  • 2 cups Cheddar Cheese (shredded): For a creamy, cheesy topping
  • 1 cup Mozzarella Cheese (shredded): For a creamy, cheesy topping
  • 1/2 cup Sour Cream: Contributes creaminess and slight tang
  • 1 small Onion (diced): Adds savory depth and sweetness
  • 2 cloves Garlic (minced): Brings aromatic flavor
  • 3 tbsp Butter: Adds richness to the sauce
  • 1 cup Chicken Broth: Creates a flavorful sauce base
  • Salt and Pepper (to taste): Essential for seasoning

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Peel and cube the potatoes, then boil them in a large pot until fork-tender, about 10 minutes. Drain.
  3. While potatoes are cooking, slice the smoked sausage into bite-sized pieces.
  4. In a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add onion and garlic and cook until softened, about 3 minutes.
  5. Add smoked sausage to the skillet and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes.
  6. Combine the cooked potatoes with the sausage mixture and stir gently to combine.
  7. In a separate bowl, mix chicken broth, sour cream, and half of the cheese. Pour this over the sausage and potatoes and stir to coat evenly.
  8. Transfer the mixture to a greased baking dish and top with the remaining cheese.
  9. Bake for 25-30 minutes, until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the top is golden brown.
  10. Serve immediately and enjoy.

Notes

  • Ensure potatoes are fork-tender but not too soft to avoid them falling apart.
  • For a richer dish, substitute chicken broth with heavy cream.
  • Leftovers can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days and reheated in the microwave or oven.
  • Make it spicier by adding jalapeños or using spicy sausage.
