Description
Chicken And Orzo Skillet is a creamy one-pan comfort meal made with tender chicken, flavorful orzo pasta, garlic, onion, broth, and Parmesan cheese. The orzo cooks directly in the skillet, absorbing the savory broth and cream to create a rich, risotto-like texture. This easy weeknight dinner is hearty, satisfying, and perfect for busy families looking for a quick and delicious homemade meal.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 boneless skinless chicken breasts, diced
- 1 cup dry orzo pasta
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 small onion, finely diced
- 2 cups chicken broth
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add diced chicken breast, season with salt and pepper, and cook until lightly golden and nearly cooked through.
- Remove the chicken from the skillet and set it aside on a plate.
- In the same skillet, melt the butter. Add diced onion and sauté for 3–4 minutes until softened.
- Add minced garlic and cook for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Stir the dry orzo into the skillet and toast it for about 1 minute to enhance flavor.
- Pour in the chicken broth and stir well, scraping any browned bits from the bottom of the pan.
- Return the cooked chicken to the skillet and add Italian seasoning. Stir everything together.
- Cover and simmer for 8–10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the orzo becomes tender and absorbs most of the broth.
- Reduce the heat and stir in the heavy cream and grated Parmesan cheese until the sauce becomes creamy and smooth.
- Taste and adjust seasoning with additional salt and pepper if needed.
- Garnish with fresh parsley and serve the Chicken And Orzo Skillet warm directly from the pan.
Notes
- Toast the orzo briefly before adding broth to improve flavor and texture.
- If the skillet becomes too thick, add a splash of warm chicken broth to loosen the sauce.
- Boneless chicken thighs can replace chicken breast for a richer flavor.
- Add vegetables such as spinach, mushrooms, or peas for extra nutrition.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
- When reheating, add a little milk or broth to restore the creamy consistency.
