Description
Chocolate Chip Banana Bread is a moist, tender, and flavorful quick bread made with ripe bananas and rich chocolate chips. Perfect for breakfast, snacks, or dessert, this easy homemade loaf delivers sweet banana flavor and melty chocolate in every bite.
Ingredients
Scale
- 3 large ripe bananas, mashed (about 1 1/4 cups) – provide natural sweetness and moisture
- 1 1/2 cups (190g) all-purpose flour – creates structure and a tender crumb
- 1 teaspoon baking soda – helps the bread rise
- 1/2 teaspoon salt – balances and enhances flavors
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon – adds warmth and depth
- 2 large eggs – bind ingredients and add richness
- 1/3 cup (75g) melted butter or 80ml coconut oil – adds moisture and flavor
- 1/2 cup (100g) packed brown sugar – sweetens and adds caramel notes
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract – enhances the overall flavor
- 1/4 cup (60g) Greek yogurt or sour cream – creates a softer, moister texture
- 3/4 cup (130g) semi-sweet chocolate chips, plus 2 tablespoons for topping – add rich chocolate flavor
- 1/4 cup (30g) chopped walnuts or pecans (optional) – add crunch and texture
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease or line a 9×5-inch loaf pan with parchment paper.
- Mash the 3 ripe bananas in a large mixing bowl until mostly smooth.
- Add the melted butter or oil, eggs, brown sugar, vanilla extract, and Greek yogurt. Stir until fully combined.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon.
- Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until just combined. Avoid overmixing.
- Fold in the chocolate chips and optional nuts.
- Transfer the batter to the prepared loaf pan and spread evenly. Sprinkle the remaining chocolate chips on top.
- Bake for 50–60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
- Cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
- Allow the loaf to cool completely before slicing and serving.
Notes
- Use bananas with heavily spotted or black peels for maximum sweetness.
- Do not overmix the batter, as this can make the bread dense.
- If the top browns too quickly, loosely cover with foil during the final 15 minutes of baking.
- Dark chocolate chips can be substituted for a richer flavor.
- Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
- Refrigerate for up to 1 week or freeze for up to 3 months.
- For cleaner slices, allow the bread to cool completely before cutting.
