Description

Chocolate Guinness Cake with Chocolate Ganache is a rich, moist chocolate cake made with Guinness stout to deepen the cocoa flavor and topped with a smooth, glossy chocolate ganache. This indulgent dessert has a tender crumb, bold chocolate taste, and a silky finish that makes it perfect for celebrations, dinner parties, or anytime you crave an impressive homemade chocolate cake.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup Guinness stout beer
  • 10 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 6 ounces semi-sweet chocolate, chopped
  • 2/3 cup heavy cream

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch round cake pan or springform pan. Line the bottom with parchment paper for easy removal.
  2. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the Guinness stout and butter. Heat until the butter melts completely.
  3. Remove the pan from heat and whisk in the cocoa powder, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until smooth.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the sour cream, eggs, and vanilla extract until fully combined.
  5. Slowly pour the chocolate stout mixture into the sour cream mixture while whisking continuously.
  6. In another bowl, mix the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  7. Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients, stirring gently until the batter is smooth and just combined.
  8. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 45–55 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  9. Allow the cake to cool completely in the pan before removing it.
  10. To make the ganache, heat the heavy cream in a saucepan until hot but not boiling.
  11. Pour the hot cream over the chopped semi-sweet chocolate and let it sit for 1 minute.
  12. Stir until smooth and glossy, then pour the ganache over the cooled cake and spread evenly before serving.

Notes

  • Use high-quality cocoa powder and chocolate for the best flavor.
  • Allow the cake to cool completely before adding the ganache to prevent it from melting too thin.
  • The cake tastes even better the next day as the flavors deepen.
  • Store the cake in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days or refrigerate for up to 5 days.
  • Bring refrigerated cake to room temperature before serving for the best texture.
