Description

These Christmas Sugar Cookies are the perfect holiday treat with a soft and chewy texture, topped with sweet cream cheese frosting and festive sprinkles. Simple to make and ideal for family baking sessions or holiday gifting, these cookies are sure to bring joy to any celebration.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Red and green sprinkles
  • 1 package cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for frosting)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add this mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  5. Roll the dough into 1-inch balls and place them on the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  6. Bake the cookies for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are golden and the centers are soft to the touch.
  7. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. Once the cookies are cool, spread the cream cheese frosting on top of each cookie and finish with red and green sprinkles.

Notes

  • For a healthier option, you can substitute the all-purpose flour with a gluten-free flour blend.
  • Chill the dough for 30 minutes to make it easier to roll into balls.
  • For a different frosting, you can use buttercream or royal icing instead of cream cheese frosting.
  • Store cookies in an airtight container for up to 5 days, or freeze for up to 3 months.
