Description

Classic Butter Herb Stuffing is a rich and aromatic side dish, perfect for holiday meals. With savory butter, fresh herbs, and crispy bread, it’s a timeless favorite that elevates any festive spread.

Ingredients

  • Butter: Adds richness and moisture to the stuffing.
  • Onions: Provide a slight sweetness and depth of flavor.
  • Celery: Offers a crisp texture and fresh taste.
  • Chicken Broth: Helps bind the bread together and adds savory flavor.
  • Herbs (Rosemary, Thyme, Sage): Provide the stuffing with aromatic, earthy flavors.
  • Bread (preferably day-old): Absorbs the broth and herbs, creating a tender texture.
  • Salt & Pepper: Used to season the stuffing to perfection.
  • Garlic: Adds savory depth to the stuffing’s flavor.

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and spread bread cubes on a baking sheet. Toast for 10-12 minutes, or until crispy.
  2. In a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add onions, celery, and garlic, and sauté for 5-7 minutes until softened.
  3. Add the fresh herbs (rosemary, thyme, sage) and cook for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  4. Pour in the chicken broth, bring to a simmer, and season with salt and pepper. Stir well to combine.
  5. In a large bowl, combine the toasted bread cubes with the vegetable and broth mixture. Stir gently to coat the bread.
  6. Transfer the stuffing to a greased baking dish, cover with foil, and bake for 25-30 minutes. For a crispy top, remove the foil during the last 10 minutes of baking.
  7. Fluff the stuffing with a fork before serving.

Notes

  • Don’t add too much broth to avoid a soggy stuffing.
  • For extra flavor, try using sourdough or whole wheat bread.
  • This stuffing can be made ahead of time and baked on the day of serving.
  • If making it vegetarian, use vegetable broth instead of chicken broth.
  • For extra crunch, bake uncovered during the last 10 minutes.
