Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • Red food coloring
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (for frosting)
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (for frosting)
  • 2 tbsp heavy cream
  • Heart-shaped sprinkles (for decoration)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a muffin tin with cupcake liners.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, beat butter until smooth and creamy. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition, then mix in vanilla extract.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until combined.
  5. Add milk and red food coloring, mixing until smooth and the desired red color is achieved.
  6. Fill each cupcake liner two-thirds full with batter.
  7. Bake for 18-20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Allow the cupcakes to cool in the tin for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  9. For the frosting, beat butter until light and fluffy, then gradually add powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and heavy cream. Beat until smooth and creamy.
  10. Once the cupcakes have cooled, frost them with the buttercream frosting using a piping bag or spatula.
  11. Decorate with heart-shaped sprinkles or chocolate arrow decorations for a festive touch.
