Description

Fresh Blueberry Crisp is a classic baked fruit dessert made with sweet, juicy fresh blueberries and topped with a buttery golden crumble. Simple to prepare with everyday ingredients, this comforting dessert is perfect for summer gatherings, family dinners, or serving warm with vanilla ice cream.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter, softened
  • 12 ounces fresh blueberries
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup light brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 1-quart baking dish with the softened butter.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the fresh blueberries, 1/3 cup granulated sugar, 1 tablespoon flour, and cinnamon. Toss gently until the berries are evenly coated.
  3. Transfer the blueberry mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread it into an even layer.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the 3/4 cup flour, brown sugar, and salt.
  5. Add the melted butter and mix with a fork or your fingertips until coarse crumbs form.
  6. Sprinkle the crumble topping evenly over the blueberry filling.
  7. Finish by sprinkling the remaining tablespoon of granulated sugar over the topping.
  8. Bake for 40 to 45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the blueberry filling is bubbling around the edges.
  9. Remove from the oven and let the crisp cool for 10 to 15 minutes before serving.
  10. Serve warm on its own or with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, or Greek yogurt.

Notes

  • Frozen blueberries can be substituted without thawing first.
  • Place the baking dish on a baking sheet to catch any bubbling overflow.
  • Allow the crisp to cool before serving so the filling thickens properly.
  • Add chopped pecans or rolled oats to the topping for extra texture.
  • Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
  • Freeze the baked crisp for up to 3 months and reheat before serving.
  • Serve with vanilla ice cream or freshly whipped cream for the best flavor.
