Description

This easy pull-apart monkey bread is buttery, soft, and incredibly fun to make. Perfect for breakfast, holidays, or anytime you crave a warm, homemade treat, this beginner-friendly recipe uses simple ingredients and yields irresistibly fluffy, golden-brown bread.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups lukewarm water
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp dry yeast
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 4 tbsp oil
  • 7 cups flour
  • 12 tbsp salted butter (for the pan)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the yeast mixture: Pour lukewarm water into a mixing bowl and sprinkle yeast over it. Add sugar and salt, stirring gently, then let sit for 10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Mix the wet ingredients: In a separate bowl, beat the eggs and mix them with the oil. Pour this mixture into the yeast mixture, stirring until fully combined.
  3. Incorporate the flour: Gradually add three cups of flour and mix until incorporated. Add another 3.5 cups of flour and mix again. Reserve the last half cup for kneading if needed.
  4. Let the dough rise: Cover the dough and place it in a warm spot until it doubles in size, which usually takes about 30 minutes.
  5. Prepare the dough: Transfer the risen dough onto a floured surface. Divide it into two equal portions, then roll each section out to about ¼-inch thickness. Use a round cutter or a glass to cut the dough into small circles.
  6. Melt the butter: Add six tablespoons of butter to each bundt pan, either melting it beforehand or placing the pan in a preheated oven for a minute to melt the butter.
  7. Assemble the bread: Dip each dough circle into the melted butter, then stack them in the bundt pan. Continue layering until all dough pieces are used.
  8. Allow the second rise: Cover and let the dough rise again until it puffs up, which should take about 20–30 minutes.
  9. Bake to perfection: Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and bake for about 20 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and the center is fully cooked.
  10. Cool and serve: Let the bread rest for a few minutes, then carefully invert the pan onto a plate. Serve warm as is, or add extra butter, jam, or honey.

Notes

  • If the dough is too sticky, add small amounts of flour while rolling it out.
  • Cover the top with foil if it starts browning too quickly in the oven.
  • To make a sweet version, mix cinnamon sugar with the melted butter before dipping the dough pieces.
  • For a savory twist, add garlic powder and parmesan cheese to the butter mixture.
