Description

Halloween Caprese Salad Skewers are a spooky yet delicious twist on a classic appetizer. These skewers feature mozzarella skulls, fresh basil, and juicy cherry tomatoes, drizzled with olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Perfect for Halloween parties, they bring a fun and festive flair to your appetizer table.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 ounces mozzarella Ciligiene
  • 1 pint cherry tomatoes
  • 1/4 cup basil leaves
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (extra virgin)
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Drain the mozzarella Ciligiene and set them aside.
  3. Prepare a silicone skull mold by lightly brushing or spraying it with oil.
  4. Place one mozzarella ball in each skull cavity.
  5. Place the mold on a small baking sheet and bake for 6 to 8 minutes to soften the cheese.
  6. Remove the molds from the oven and press each mozzarella ball firmly into the mold using a folded paper towel to absorb excess liquid.
  7. Place the mold in the fridge for 10 to 15 minutes to cool and set the cheese into the skull shape.
  8. Release the mozzarella skulls by gently pressing from the outside of the mold.
  9. Thread a mozzarella skull, followed by a folded basil leaf, and a cherry tomato onto a bamboo pick.
  10. Drizzle olive oil and balsamic vinegar over the assembled skewers, or serve the balsamic on the side for dipping.

Notes

  • Ensure the mozzarella is fully pressed to remove excess liquid for a firmer texture.
  • These skewers are best served fresh, but you can prepare the mozzarella ahead of time.
  • For a different flavor profile, use balsamic glaze instead of balsamic vinegar for a thicker, sweeter taste.
  • To prevent wilting, assemble the skewers just before serving.
