Description

Irresistible Honey Butter Mashed Sweet Potatoes are a creamy, flavorful side dish made with sweet potatoes, honey, butter, and cinnamon. This easy recipe creates a luxurious mash perfect for any occasion, from family dinners to holiday feasts.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 lbs sweet potatoes, peeled and chopped
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup raw honey
  • 1/2 cup whole milk or heavy cream
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp salt

Instructions

  1. Peel and chop sweet potatoes into uniform chunks. Place them in a large pot and cover with cold water.
  2. Bring the pot to a boil over medium-high heat. Let the sweet potatoes cook for about 15-20 minutes, or until fork-tender.
  3. Drain the sweet potatoes well, then return them to the pot. Mash them until smooth using a potato masher or ricer.
  4. Stir in unsalted butter and honey while the sweet potatoes are still warm, allowing the butter to melt into the mash.
  5. Gradually add milk or cream, stirring until you achieve your desired consistency. Season with salt and cinnamon, mixing well.
  6. Taste the mashed sweet potatoes and adjust seasoning as needed before serving.

Notes

  • For a vegan version, substitute coconut oil for butter and maple syrup for honey.
  • For extra flavor, add a pinch of nutmeg or swap cinnamon for pumpkin pie spice.
  • Make ahead: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days. Reheat gently with a little milk or cream.
  • For a smoother texture, use a potato ricer instead of a masher.
