Description

This homemade mint chocolate chip ice cream recipe is easy to make and requires no ice cream machine. Enjoy a creamy, refreshing treat that can be customized to your tastes.

Ingredients

  • Heavy Cream
  • Whole Milk
  • Granulated Sugar
  • Fresh Mint Leaves
  • Vanilla Extract
  • Chocolate Chips
  • Salt

Instructions

  1. Place the fresh mint leaves in a saucepan with the milk and heat over medium heat until it just begins to simmer. Let it steep for about 5 minutes, then remove from the heat and let it cool completely. Strain out the mint leaves.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the heavy cream, cooled mint-infused milk, granulated sugar, and a pinch of salt. Stir until the sugar dissolves completely.
  3. Add the vanilla extract and mix until fully incorporated. Taste the mixture and adjust sweetness or vanilla if needed.
  4. Pour the mixture into a shallow dish or large bowl. If you have an ice cream maker, follow the manufacturer’s instructions. If not, cover the bowl with plastic wrap and place it in the freezer.
  5. Stir the mixture with a fork every 30 minutes to break up the ice crystals, continuing for 3-4 hours until it is firm and scoopable.
  6. Once the ice cream is firm, stir in the chocolate chips and fold them in gently to distribute evenly.
  7. Cover and return the ice cream to the freezer for at least 1 hour to firm up before serving.

Notes

  • If you prefer a stronger mint flavor, increase the amount of mint leaves or use mint extract.
  • If making dairy-free, substitute heavy cream and milk with coconut cream and almond milk.
  • Stir the ice cream every 30 minutes to avoid ice crystals and achieve a smoother texture.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the freezer and let it sit out for a few minutes before serving for easy scooping.
