Description
Homemade mulberry jam is a vibrant, naturally sweet spread perfect for toast, desserts, and yogurt. Easy to make with fresh or frozen mulberries, this jam preserves the fruit’s natural flavor and nutrients.
Ingredients
- Mulberries (500 g / 2 cups): fresh or frozen berries providing natural sweetness and vibrant color
- Sugar (250 g / 1 1/4 cups): balances tartness and acts as a preservative
- Lemon juice (2 tbsp): enhances flavor, adds tang, and helps jam set
- Water (60 ml / 1/4 cup): aids in cooking the mulberries to a smooth consistency
Instructions
- Wash mulberries thoroughly and remove stems for a smooth jam.
- In a large pan, combine mulberries, sugar, and water. Stir over low heat until sugar dissolves.
- Bring mixture to a gentle boil, adding lemon juice. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
- Simmer for 15–20 minutes until mulberries break down and jam thickens. Check consistency by coating the back of a spoon.
- Remove from heat and blend lightly if smoother texture is desired.
- Transfer jam to sterilized jars, seal tightly, and store in the refrigerator for up to a month or process in a water bath for longer shelf life.
Notes
- Use a thick-bottomed pan to prevent burning.
- Stir frequently as jam thickens.
- Test jam readiness on a chilled plate; it should hold shape.
- Adjust sugar to taste or use natural alternatives, but note changes in texture and shelf life.
