Description

Oklahoma Nut Candy is a classic homemade sweet treat made with caramelized sugar, buttery richness, and crunchy nuts. This easy stovetop candy recipe delivers a perfect balance of sweetness and texture, making it ideal for holidays, gifting, or everyday indulgence.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup evaporated milk
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup corn syrup
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups chopped pecans or walnuts
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

Instructions

  1. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it to prevent sticking.
  2. In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, combine sugar, evaporated milk, butter, and corn syrup over medium heat.
  3. Stir continuously until the mixture is smooth and begins to boil.
  4. Continue cooking while stirring until the mixture reaches 235–240°F (soft-ball stage).
  5. Remove from heat and quickly stir in vanilla extract and baking soda.
  6. Fold in the chopped nuts and mix until evenly coated.
  7. Pour the mixture onto the prepared baking sheet and spread evenly.
  8. Allow the candy to cool completely at room temperature.
  9. Once set, break or cut into pieces and serve.

Notes

  • Use a candy thermometer for accurate results and proper texture.
  • Stir constantly to prevent burning or uneven cooking.
  • Avoid high heat, as it can cause the candy to harden too quickly.
  • Store in an airtight container to keep freshness and prevent stickiness.
  • You can substitute different nuts or add a pinch of salt for a salted variation.
