Description

This Red White and Blue Bundt Cake is a festive patriotic dessert featuring moist vanilla cake with vibrant red and blue swirls hidden inside. Made with white cake mix, ready-made frosting, and colorful sprinkles, it’s an easy yet impressive treat perfect for Fourth of July celebrations, Memorial Day gatherings, summer barbecues, and family parties.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 boxes (15.25 ounces each) white cake mix
  • 8 large egg whites
  • 1 cup (226 grams) unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 1/2 cups (600 ml) whole milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon red food gel, or as needed for desired color
  • 1/2 teaspoon sky blue food gel, or as needed for desired color
  • 1 can (16 ounces) ready-made vanilla frosting
  • 1/4 cup red, white, and blue sprinkles, for decorating

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and generously coat a 9-inch Bundt pan with baking spray.
  2. Using a stand mixer, beat together the white cake mixes, egg whites, softened butter, and whole milk until smooth and fully combined.
  3. Transfer 2 cups of batter to a bowl and mix with the red food gel until evenly colored.
  4. Transfer another 2 cups of batter to a separate bowl and mix with the sky blue food gel until evenly colored.
  5. Pour half of the plain white batter into the prepared Bundt pan.
  6. Spoon dollops of blue batter into the center of the white batter, alternating with spoonfuls of red batter.
  7. Continue layering the colored batter without swirling until all colored batter has been used.
  8. Cover with the remaining white batter and smooth the top gently.
  9. Bake for 40 to 45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  10. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 to 15 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
  11. Microwave the ready-made frosting for 30 to 45 seconds until pourable.
  12. Drizzle the frosting over the cooled cake and decorate with the patriotic sprinkles.
  13. Allow the frosting to set before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • Do not swirl the colored batters together; the dropped dollops create the signature patriotic pattern.
  • Use gel food coloring for vibrant colors without thinning the batter.
  • Add 1 teaspoon vanilla extract to the batter for extra flavor if desired.
  • Ensure the cake is completely cool before adding frosting.
  • Store covered at room temperature for up to 2 days or refrigerate for up to 5 days.
  • The unfrosted cake can be frozen for up to 3 months.
  • Substitute almond milk and dairy-free butter for a dairy-free variation.
