Description
These Rice Krispies Brains are the perfect Halloween treat, combining marshmallow goodness with a creepy brain shape and optional ‘blood’ streaks for a spooky effect. They are easy to make, require no baking, and are sure to be a hit at your next Halloween party.
Ingredients
Scale
- 5 cups Rice Krispies (or crispy rice cereal)
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter
- 10 oz mini marshmallows
- Red food coloring
Instructions
- Start by melting the butter in a large saucepan over low heat.
- Add the mini marshmallows and stir until fully melted.
- Once the marshmallows are melted, add the red food coloring to achieve a pinkish hue.
- Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the Rice Krispies until well-coated.
- Use an ice cream scoop or a ¼ cup measure to drop portions onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Shape each mound into an oblong brain shape using your hands.
- Use the handle of a butter knife to create an indent on top of each brain, and then gently shape the two halves together.
- For added effect, paint “blood” onto the brains with a paintbrush and red food coloring.
- Allow the treats to cool completely before serving.
Notes
- For a vegan version, substitute with plant-based butter.
- For gluten-free treats, use gluten-free crispy rice cereal.
- The red food coloring gives a great brain-like effect, but it will fade slightly when mixed with the Rice Krispies.
- Make sure to work quickly once the marshmallow mixture is ready to prevent it from setting too soon.
