Ingredients
Scale
- 12 oz (340 g) kielbasa sausage, sliced into rounds
- 1 medium green cabbage (about 2 lb / 900 g), thinly sliced
- 1 medium onion (about 1 cup / 150 g), sliced
- 3 garlic cloves (about 1 tbsp), minced
- 2 tbsp butter or olive oil
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1/2 tsp salt, or to taste
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1/4 cup (60 ml) chicken broth or water
- 2 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped (optional for garnish)
Instructions
- Slice the kielbasa into rounds and thinly slice the cabbage and onion. Mince the garlic cloves.
- Heat butter or olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced kielbasa and cook for 4–5 minutes until browned and lightly crisp on the edges.
- Remove the kielbasa from the skillet and set aside, leaving the flavorful drippings in the pan.
- Add the onion to the skillet and sauté for 3–4 minutes until softened. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Add the sliced cabbage to the skillet. Sprinkle with paprika, salt, and black pepper, stirring to coat evenly.
- Pour in the chicken broth or water and cook for 10–12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage becomes tender with slight caramelization.
- Return the kielbasa to the skillet and stir well. Cook for another 3–5 minutes until heated through and flavors combine.
- Taste and adjust seasoning if needed. Garnish with fresh parsley and serve warm.
Notes
- Brown the kielbasa first for deeper smoky flavor and crisp texture.
- Do not overcook the cabbage; slight tenderness with some bite gives the best texture.
- Add red pepper flakes for a spicy variation.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
- Reheat in a skillet for the best texture and flavor.
- Pair with mashed potatoes, crusty bread, rice, or roasted vegetables for a complete meal.
