Description

Smash Burger Tacos are a delicious fusion of a classic smash burger and a taco, featuring crispy beef patties, melty cheese, and homemade burger sauce, all wrapped in a warm tortilla. This easy recipe is perfect for a quick dinner or a backyard cookout.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup mayo
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped dill pickles
  • 1/2 teaspoon pickled juice
  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon soy sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon rice vinegar
  • 1 pound ground beef (80/20)
  • 3/4 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 6 slices American cheese
  • 6 flour tortillas (street taco size)
  • Shredded lettuce
  • Burger pickles
  • Optional toppings: bacon, white onions

Instructions

  1. Make the burger sauce: In a small bowl, combine mayo, ketchup, chopped dill pickles, pickled juice, paprika, garlic powder, kosher salt, black pepper, soy sauce, and rice vinegar. Stir to combine and set aside.
  2. Prepare the beef: In a medium bowl, mix ground beef with salt and pepper. Divide into 6 equal portions and roll each into a ball.
  3. Cook the patties: Heat a cast-iron griddle or skillet over medium-high heat. Place the beef balls onto the griddle and flatten each ball using a burger press. Let cook for about 40 seconds.
  4. Add cheese and tortillas: Flip the patties and add a slice of cheese to each one. Place the tortillas onto the griddle and cook for 2 minutes, until golden brown.
  5. Toast the tortillas: Flip the tortillas and remove from the griddle once golden brown on the edges. Set aside.
  6. Assemble the tacos: Place a burger patty on each tortilla, then top with shredded lettuce, pickles, and burger sauce.

Notes

  • Don’t overcrowd the griddle to ensure even cooking.
  • Make sure the tortillas are well-toasted for a crispy texture.
  • Feel free to use other types of cheese or add more toppings like bacon or grilled onions for extra flavor.
  • Make the burger sauce ahead of time and store in an airtight container for up to a week.
