Ingredients
Scale
- 1 box (15.25 oz / 432 g) white cake mix
- 3 large eggs
- 1/2 cup (120 ml) vegetable oil
- 1 cup (240 ml) water
- 1 box (3 oz / 85 g) strawberry gelatin
- 1 tub (8 oz / 226 g) whipped topping, thawed
- 2 cups (300 g) fresh strawberries, sliced
- 1 cup (150 g) fresh blueberries
- 1/2 cup (60 g) powdered sugar (optional, for homemade whipped cream)
- 1 teaspoon (5 ml) vanilla extract (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven according to the cake mix instructions and grease a 9×13-inch baking pan.
- Prepare the white cake batter by mixing cake mix, eggs, oil, and water until smooth and well combined.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Remove the cake from the oven and allow it to cool for 10–15 minutes.
- Using the handle of a wooden spoon, poke holes evenly across the warm cake.
- Prepare the strawberry gelatin according to package directions and slowly pour it over the cake so it seeps into the holes.
- Refrigerate the cake for at least 2 hours or until fully chilled and set.
- Spread whipped topping evenly over the cooled cake surface.
- Arrange blueberries in the top-left corner to form the blue field of the American flag.
- Place sliced strawberries in rows to create the red stripes across the cake.
- Chill for at least 30 minutes before serving to allow flavors to set and structure to firm.
Notes
- Allow the cake to absorb gelatin while still slightly warm for best results.
- Use firm, fresh berries to keep the flag design neat and defined.
- Chill thoroughly before decorating to prevent sliding toppings.
- Wipe the knife between slices for clean presentation.
- Homemade whipped cream can be used but should be stabilized for best structure.
