Description

This easy vegan turkey recipe is made with extra-firm tofu, seasoned with sage and onion seasoning, and cooked to crispy perfection. It’s a flavorful, plant-based alternative to traditional turkey, ideal for vegan Thanksgiving or Christmas dinners. The result is a juicy, tender, and crispy tofu turkey that everyone will love.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 ounces extra-firm tofu
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 2 tablespoons vegan butter
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 2+ tablespoons sage and onion seasoning
  • Optional: ¼ – ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ cup vegan chicken broth
  • 1 cup oyster mushrooms (optional)
  • 34 green onions, sliced

Instructions

  1. Wrap the extra-firm tofu in a clean kitchen towel and gently press to remove excess moisture. Slice the tofu into thin pieces.
  2. In a large bowl, toss the tofu slices with olive oil, then sprinkle with sage and onion seasoning. Add mushrooms, if using, and toss to coat evenly.
  3. Heat vegan butter and oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the tofu and mushrooms in a single layer.
  4. Cook the tofu for 10-15 minutes, flipping occasionally, until some slices are golden and crispy while others remain tender.
  5. If using vegan chicken broth, add a splash towards the end to keep the tofu moist and add flavor. Stir in green onions for the last 5 minutes of cooking.
  6. Serve immediately with your favorite vegan holiday sides.

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, cook the tofu longer and ensure the skillet is hot before adding the tofu slices.
  • If you prefer, you can use tempeh or seitan instead of tofu for a different texture.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week.
  • If you don’t have sage and onion seasoning, use a combination of thyme, rosemary, and garlic powder for a similar flavor.
